Community Overview

Islamorada is also known as the sportfishing capital of the world. Many famous adventurers have made the Florida Keys their home. One of them, of course, was Ernest Hemingway. The sister ship to Hemingway's fishing boat the "Pilar" can be visited at the World Wide Sportsman retail store on Upper Matecumbe Key.

By boat, the big game fishing grounds are minutes away in the Atlantic Ocean. To the west is Florida Bay with its famous fly fishing flats.

If fishing tournaments are your passion, you should be able to find one you like at almost any time of the year.

This area offers many first class hotels and superb restaurants. Watch the beautiful Florida sunsets from the verandah or the pristine beach of the Green Flash Lounge or while having cocktails at the Lorelei (to name just two of our many wonderful local watering holes).

If you are lucky enough to be here on the first day of a full moon, you will want to join one of the "Full Moon" beach parties.

Lazy days in the sun or the excitement of fighting that big game fish or catching a huge tarpon await the fortunate fisherman.

The Florida Keys are also home to the only living coral reef in the continental United States. In the summer, our waters are warm and inviting. For a few months in the winter, you may need a wet suit to be comfortable while snorkeling or diving.

Only a short drive from Miami or Key West, the Upper Keys are much more than a peaceful hideaway or tropical retreat. They offer a lifestyle of days gone by when life was simple and easy.

Let it be your ISLAND HOME.
